Eleven cards around the wheel — seven movables circle, four fixed hold the edges. The lit card is the karana now.
Inside
  • The eleven karanas
Bava to Naga — each with its animal, its nature, its advice.
  • Movable & fixed
Seven cycle the month; four — Kimstughna, Shakuni, Chatushpada, Naga — mark the boundaries.
  • Half-tithi timing
A karana is half a tithi — the wheel turns about twice a day.
  • Driven by the moon
Karana index from true sun-moon elongation — the card that lands is real.
