Find the most auspicious timing (muhurta) for Gowri Panchangam. This module weighs the panchang factors — tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana — against your chosen event and returns the best windows with the reasoning shown.
Gowri Panchangam is a panchangam reading — the five-limbed Vedic calendar for the day: tithi, weekday, nakshatra, yoga and karana, plus the day's dark windows and best hours.
The panchangam is the backbone of Vedic time — five limbs (pancha-anga) computed from the sun-moon geometry, refined in the Siddhantas and the regional almanacs. Every temple town published its own; the five-limb structure has stayed constant for two millennia.
The day's almanac was read aloud at the temple each morning. Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam and Gulika were the windows to avoid; Abhijit and Amrita the ones to catch. Work began after the panchangam, never before.
| 1 | Tithi | The lunar day — each 12° of sun-moon elongation is one tithi, thirty to the lunation; the first limb and the day's basic flavor. |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Vara | The weekday — each ruled by a graha (Sun through Saturn), carrying that planet's color into the day's work. |
| 3 | Nakshatra | The moon's star of the twenty-seven — the day's temperament and the limb most weighed for beginnings. |
| 4 | Yoga | Sun-plus-moon longitude divided into twenty-seven — the day's auspicious or harsh undercurrent. |
| 5 | Karana | The half-tithi — eleven kinds (seven moving, four fixed), the fine-grain of the day's activity. |
The module computes the real panchangam for your place and date — not a static table — so the timings answer where you are, not where the almanac was printed.
Tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (moon's star), yoga (sun+moon longitude) and karana (half-tithi).
A daily ~90-minute window assigned to Rahu by weekday — the tradition avoids beginning new work in it.
They are computed from the sun and moon as seen from your place — sunrise, moonrise and the limb boundaries shift with latitude.
