What is Chaya Shastra?

Chaya Shastra is the Indian knowledge of shadows: the study of how light, the Sun and the observer produce a shadow, and how that shadow has been read, measured and interpreted across Indian astronomy, Jyotisha and folk culture.

The word Chaya (சாயை / साया) means "shadow" or "reflection." In classical Indian astronomy it refers to the shadow of a gnomon or the shadow of the Earth on the Moon. In Jyotisha it also names shadow planets — Rahu and Ketu — and the sensitive Upagraha points.

This module keeps these meanings separate: physical shadow calculations are shown as astronomy, traditional readings are labelled as belief, and Chaya Graha data is computed as Jyotisha.
