Rain Omens

What this is

Rain Omens is an omen reading — Shakuna Shastra, the classical art of reading the sign the world offers: the bird, the sound, the meeting on the way, at the moment it arrives.

History & tradition

The omen-books run alongside Jyotisha — the Shakuna and Nimitta literature taught that the world answers a question through signs. The direction the omen arrives from, its timing, and what the errand asks — all were weighed before the omen was read.

How the tradition practiced it

The traditional reader asked three questions: from which quarter did the sign come, for what errand was it asked, and is it auspicious in kind. The answer combined omen + direction + purpose — never the omen alone.

What it covers
  • The omen's meaning in the classical book
  • The direction/quarter it arrived from
  • How the errand asked tilts the reading
  • Whether it blesses or asks a pause
  • The counsel the tradition gives
The five kinds of omens the books weigh
1 Animal crossings The cow, the cat, the snake, the deer, the jackal — what crosses your path and from which quarter.
2 Sound omens The sneeze behind you, the temple bell, the conch, the thunder — what the ear catches at the moment of the errand.
3 Meetings on the way The full water-pot, the wedding party, the priest — or the empty vessel and the funeral — who or what you meet setting out.
4 Sky signs The rainbow, the meteor, the lightning — the heaven's own signals.
5 House signs The spider descending, the lizard's chirp, the pigeon entering — the signs within the walls.
Deeper detail

Describe the omen — the kind, the quarter it came from, the errand — and the module reads it the classical way: omen + direction + purpose, with the verdict and counsel.

Common questions
What is Shakuna Shastra?

The classical omen-book — reading the world's signs (animals, sounds, meetings, sky-signs) for what they say about the errand in hand.

Does the direction matter?

Deeply — the same omen from a blessed quarter reads differently than from a southern one; the tradition always weighs direction with kind.

Are omens fate?

No — the tradition treats them as counsel, not command. An asking-care omen advises a pause, water, three breaths — not abandonment.
